Goodbye, Beautiful Boy

Yesterday, when I woke up and saw the date - 10/10 -
I thought "Today is an auspicious day."

Boy, was I wrong.

 



Yesterday, our beautiful mew Titus was hit by a car.

He was only three years old and he was perfect. I miss him so and my heart is broken. As my mom said, "It's a wonder I can still love with all these animal-shaped holes in my heart."

It is unhappily coincidental that I just posted this, about pet loss and why October sucks. I didn't expect to add another sad event to my list so soon.

Titus was one of the kittens we rescued in October of 2009 and was a frequent visitor on the blog. He, along with his sister, Ruby, have brought us so much joy over these past few years. I only wish we could have had a few more.

He was loved, and loving, and oh so beautiful. I don't want to share much about how he died, but I will share pictures of him and leave you with this thought:

 

"I know you're in a hurry, I know you have to get to work, I know you have a big meeting. But if you hit an animal, please stop. Please stop and find someone who can help if you can't. Please have some compassion, because that's someone else's family that you just drove away from."

So, I've been in a crafty mood lately. Maybe I'm feeling the holiday spirit, maybe I'm enjoying time off from school, maybe I'm just embracing my inner crafter. Whatever the reason, here's what I've been up to.

Finger-Knitted Garlands

i found a tutorial for these, mentioned here, a few days ago and have been obsessed since then.

these are only a few, i have 5 or so more that i didn't photograph yet.

i was at lunch yesterday, making one of these garlands, and i was approached about teaching a little class on them at a local church retreat in January!

Thanksgiving Recap and Kittens!

Oh my gosh, you guys, I am so behind on my posting! I hope you all had amazing Thanksgiving weekends full of family and friends and food!

I ended up going to Thanksgiving lunch with Adam, his mom and his grandparents. His grandparents are just the cutest people, I love them. :)

After lunch, we went back into our area, picked up Jon and got ready to go to my parent's house for dinner. Jon's sister, her boyfriend, my two cousins, my sister's boyfriend and my grandpa also came. It was a nice evening; we played air hockey and the new Super Mario for Wii, and ate lots of good food.

This was actually the first year ever that my mom cooked a turkey. Normally, we order in from Marie Callendar's. :)

The next morning, I went shopping with my mom and Jon's sister, Jessica. Jon met up with us after we hit Target and Victoria's Secret and all of the other stores he hoped to avoid. Little did he know that Jo-Ann's was last on the list! He survived and then we headed home with all of our loot. The rest of the weekend was easy and relaxing; we had our carpets cleaned in preparation for Jon's dad coming to visit in a few weeks, we went to breakfast, we watched movies and lounged.

Unfortunately, I took no pictures Thanksgiving weekend, but since I can't leave you without any pictures, I will give you kitty pictures!

Kitten Update

So Adam took 2 of the baby mews the other day. Which is totally super, since he took my fave, Burrow/Gopher. He also took Delicate, also known as Deli. And now I get to play with them whenever I want! And my mom has 2 less cats to care for! Win-win for everyone. There are still 2 more available if any of you are local and want them!!!
